I spoke with my doctor again yesterday, just prior to leaving for work.
This is what he told me:
- Yes, Keflex most often is not effective for MRSA, but it was not part of the screening when he sent out the culture, meaning that there are strains of MRSA that are not resistant to Keflex.
- Since he did a cut and drain, it is quite possible that enough of the infection was emptied out of the wound that my body fought off the rest.
Either way, he said the physical state of my foot indicates the end of the infection better than the typical implications.
I will finish the prescription he gave me and plan a follow-up to be sure.
As for the fighting off of it once the bulk is removed, I can believe that. I mean, really, my body starts fighting off my own sweat on a regular basis. Seriously. Between HIV and the results of the chemotherapy, my body doesn’t like much of the world hanging out on its surface…
