sunday style – fading daylight edition

I’m gonna have to move faster on Sundays through the winter. I had the brilliant idea to take it outdoors today, the light was great and I have been negligent in any attempts to photograph the structures of the West Bottoms. By the time I was showered, dressed and ready with camera in hand, the light was waning. I went anyway. I got some exercise in my shutter speed settings. I am impressed with how much detail I caught, but the colors are off. I went back indoors for the detail shots following the cut.

This week was a casual look, more like what I end up with on a regular basis, not the doll-up nights out to underground places.

It’s late autumn now. My favorite time of year for color. The mix of greens and silvers and blacks of winter with the warmth of the autumn palette warms me as the chill sets in for the season. In my years as a florist, that was my favorite color sets to mix. The results were always rich and deep.

The sport coat is a wool, nylon and cashmere blend. It was featured in the first ever Sunday style post. Matched with other muted colors, it tones down some, in this case taking a second place to the shirt’s print.

The bling on the jacket collar is still an undecided. It’s fun, but may be too bright for such dark tones. There are two, one on each point of either end of the collar. They are gold leaf-shaped clip-on earrings. I snagged them for a quarter last week and wanted to see how they could be re-purposed. They look better on some of the more formal jackets I have. Maybe some other time. (They also make neat elf ears in a pinch. No, really, ask <kumazuki> … he saw… LOL)

The shirt is a crazy mix of paisley brown and gold paisley over top of green and burgundy plaid. It was made for this season, even if it is a standard weight cotton. What don’t show in these photos are the t-shirt and long-sleeve henley I layered underneath. Eh. I am still learning to list the detail shots I need before stripping down afterward…

The hauls have lightened dramatically, but that may be my desire to curve spending more than the availability of options. The braces were the big find of this morning’s round to the DAV. Ninety-nine cents. The front straps are like a webbing, similar to – what? – a coarse ribbon or miniature seat-belt. Only the back strap is elastic. It gives a good appearance. The button-hole tie-downs are a deep burgundy leather, almost black.

The trousers are a heavy wool herringbone pattern in tan and rust. The detailing on the trousers is wonderful: the shape and angle of the inside fly button-down flap, the wide belt loops , the buttoned-down fifth pocket.

Overall, I am happy with the look. It isn’t the nines like other weeks, but they can’t all be. This is a warm look for the approaching cold.
