innaugural sunday style post

I have been in a foul mood ever since some social rudeness this morning at the DAV thrift. I have decide to shed the funk by initiating a project my LJ that I have been floating around in my head for some time now.

Welcome to Sunday Style.

It may not be more than what I have already been haphazardly doing except for perhaps more organized. I plan to focus on substitution, meaning breaking from traditional dress by swapping out key elements with expected choices. Like Wescos instead of dress shoes… Another motive is to ensure I continue playing with the wardrobe whether or not I have places to wear it out. I like the idea of keeping a habit of dressing smart simply because I can.

This week is about texture. Or pattern. Or both. I have been fiddling with this combo for a bit and finally landed the right pieces. I typically chicken out when it comes to patterns and stripes mixed together. I want to break that habit.

The color palette is one hundred percent me. And the fact that I landed a striped shirt, paisley/floral tie and ostrich feather in exactly the same hues makes my naughty bits tingle ever so slightly. Speaking of the feather, that introduces an element I have begun obsessing over and hope to do so for a bit yet. The pocket square. Since all of my current wardrobe is thrift purchases, I haven’t had much luck with pocket squares, only two and some larger silk hankies.

As it happened, <thornyc>  referred me to <lord_whimsy> some time last week. Shortly after, an example of pocket square substitution turned up. That time, it was a peacock feather. I hope this isn’t too obvious a mimic. I have already begun gathering things I have about and today I landed some excellent lace-edged linen place-mats and napkins, which I cut down and pressed into properly sized folds. they will be making appearances soon enough.

The sport coat is a wool/nylon/cashmere blend in a moss green tone. It has a beautiful copper striped lining which doesn’t show in the photos… The shirt is brown with raised-stitch stripes, giving a great feel to the touch; ribbed for added pleasure. The tie is silk, handmade in Italy. The vest is green suead and heavily made, allowing for a nice snug fit, just how I like it. I want to feel it fight against me when I breathe. The pants are an experiment. They are tan herringbone and originally had way too much fabric in the legs. I fitted them to tuck into tall boots and attempted to mimic a jodphur cut. It doesn’t show well in the seated image; I will have to work on the concept a bit further, but I like the results this time around…

In attempts to show the trouser fabric, what better way than the obligatory crotch shot…?
Enjoy!
